La Jornada de Guerrero

My uncle Arturo Figueroa Uriza was a historian; his father Andrés Figueroa Figueroa,  was Defense Minister in the Lázaro Cárdenas administration. Uncle Arturo researched the origin, of the Figueroa and Uriza families of Huitzuco. I read in one of his books, that the Figueroas came from Spain, then he found them in Cotija, Michoacán, then Juliantla, Guerrero, from there he found records in Buenavista de Cuéllar,  and finally in  Huitzuco county: Quezalapa, Chaucingo, and Huitzuco.

The list above, is for the dead. This past weekend a Workers Party candidate closed his campaign for Mayor in Buenavista. There was an accident and over twenty people died. I believe some in that list belong to my family. My maternal great grandfather was Abraham Castro.

A historian friend of mine, Gil Arturo Ferrer Vicario, explained to me, how whole Spanish families were brought to New Spain, because by law, Indians were not allowed to ride horses. Besides American Indians are lactose intolerant. They were not cowboys. My ancestors come from Central Asia, where a genetic mutation gave them advantage over other groups, because they became Lactose tolerant. My grandfather Manuel Uriza Marbán, knew how to make a delicious cheese. We got  a huge piece for the whole year in Mexico City.

RIP.

Worldviews

I have had two or three worldviews during my life. I mean after I turned 10, before that age I don't remember thoughts on the meaning of life. I can distinguish two now, as a Mexican, and as a Mexican-American. During my Mexican stage, the US was an enemy of Mexico to the North. Now I have a more pro US position. Nevertheless I believe both these worldviews are in flux.

Similarly, my attitude towards sex and love, have shifted a bit. I am more willing to consider a worldview in which sex is not so close to love, but I still feel closer to a worldview that sees sex as hunger, and love as nourishment.

Sometimes I try to play the sociologist from Mars game, maybe now that I know that almost every star in the Milky Way has a planet, more like the sociologist from planet X. I do not believe in absolute moral values, but I do believe in knowledge. There are things we can learn, like how to produce Plutonium.

At some point, I have a hunch, we will learn, that a life without love is sadder.

Mother, Father, Brother, and Yours Truly!

The Day After Father's Day

Today is Monday, I see progress in Obama's movement out of this Republican induced recession. Conservatives tend to be dull compared to Democrats, I can see why Obama was an A student at Harvard, and Bush a B student at Yale.

One the child of privilege; the other a self made man, son of an outstanding woman, and a troubled, but smart father. Obama himself was troubled, but he triumphed over his demons, and became a great father, and an outstanding President.

I do not mean to say that he will win in November, but his mark is clear in American History, the First African American President, who saved his country from a Wall Street caused financial catastrophe. Virtue triumphed over Greed, what a line for future Grammar School History Textbooks! That is a done deal; no matter what the greedy Mitt Romney can buy with his money in this coming November presidential election. We should remember that money triumphed over the will of the people in Wisconsin.

I am very proud of our President who heard the voice of DREAMERS.

I am very proud of my son who was awarded a minority scholarship for the third consecutive year!

Father's Day

Today is Father's Day in the US. My children treat me with respect and without fear. My father taught me that, and I am glad I was able to teach them as well. They are not afraid of me.

I was scolded today, and I should do better.

Purpose of this Blog

I belong to a group of Mexican friends who keep blogs. One of my blogs is so much based on somebody else's work, that already a Google Robot thought it was SPAM. When I defended the site they left me alone. Here I want  to define the purpose of this blog more. The main purpose is to claim my name. Homesteading the Noosphere! Furthermore this is the most personal of my blogs, I have family pictures and the like. I am a man of ideas, so you can also find my ideas here. In contrast other blogs were created at the prodding of friends. When they lost interest the blogs kind of faded away. Here there is a list:

Scripting

At Lucent we worked with ksh. I am reading a microbiome paper, [link]. Surprisingly I find out scripting used!

At Fermilab we filtered huge data sets with software.

Recently I studied Graphs, Surfaces and Homology, with Peter Giblin book.

Today there is an article by Gina Kolata in the NYT.

The Human Microbiome Project is using the methods described in the article named "Microbiome profiling by Illumina sequencing of combinatorial sequence-tagged PCR products", linked above.

What a surprise!

In principle I could work in the field now called Bioinformatics.

I just do not know how to pass the gatekeepers.

Interesting work, though.

Maybe if the money comes back to the USA, it'll be easy to be creative again. BRICS, and the Eurozone are not very healthy these days.

Great Idea

Today I was talking to a friend about censorship in science. If your idea is preliminary, very preliminary, and is new, very new; chances are it won't be published. In other words other scientists will not discuss it.

Scientists can be a conservative bunch sometimes.

I told my friend we still have the blogs!

Here I go.

Information bomb.

Complex software object capable of breaking down Iranian Centrifuges.

Stuxnet!, you will say; that is not new. The point here is, that I had the idea around twenty years ago.

Anyway, here is another one I just had right now.

There is a Mathematical Theory of Complexity, which will make big data problems kid's play. We are talking trillions of dollars here. It is like the turbulence problem of my times. We knew that aeronautics engineers, were paying millions of dollars to test planes in wind tunnels, because they lacked  an analytical theory of turbulence. This theory I'm talking about, which must exist, is several orders of magnitude more important.

Problem is: I don't have the theory yet.

Father's Day Coming

"In Spain, this problem has been even more acute. Bankia, before it failed, had a loan-to-deposit ratio of 160 percent, one of the highest levels in Europe. Even the strongest banks in the country, like Santander, the global banking giant, have a fairly risky ratio of 115 percent, while big Italian banks like Unicredit rely on bulk borrowing to a similar or higher degree."

NYT

I owe to Santander.

Even though I did not accept the credit line they offered me in Chilpancingo, I contracted a service to get my money back if I lost my deposit plastic card. I had lost it twice before, to what I consider a change of habits. I took money at a different time I usually did, and left the card in the ATM. Somebody took the card and stole my money.

Now I am not getting money in that account, and the service is costing me.

The reason I did not accept the line of credit is because I already owe money to American banks. My problem is obvious, I should have a bigger income. I'm working on that.

More later.
