Discussion and Prospects. The signal in Fig. 1 represents the first measurement of the cosmic velocity field made directly with respect to the rest frame of the universe. It is consistent with simulations based on the standard cosmological model. This signal is also the first detection of the kinematic Sunyaev-Zel'dovich effect.
The measurement we have presented here is the first step on a new path to constraining structure growth in the universe.
