Sometimes it is more important to know: What did not happen, than what happened?
- Why Computer Physics has not produced a Nobel Prize?
- Why haven't ETs been discovered?
- Why there is not a Theory of Everything?
I assume the Higgs particle will be announced this summer.
By now, I expected the proton mass computer calculation to have been recognized by the Nobel Committee. I believe this has to do with the politics of Physics, as when Einstein got the Prize for the Photoelectric Effect. As the late Abraham Pais, explained in his book, "Subtle is the Lord". As it happened, nobody in that Committee was qualified to understand other major Einstein works.
Enrico Fermi gave one answer to the second question: There aren't any.
Finally, I believe that the answer to the third is: There is only an Effective Theory.
At this point in human evolution, all we can aspire to have is a better and better Effective Field Theory.
